Dear Members of the Korean Association of English for Specific Purposes(ESP)
As we welcome the Year of the Snake in 2025, I extend my heartfelt wishes for your health, happiness, and academic success. May peace and prosperity also fill your homes throughout the year.
Nearly a decade has passed since the founding of our association in response to the growing demand for English for Specific Purposes (ESP) education in Korea. Under the leadership of our founding president, Professor Seung-Ryul Lee, followed by Presidents Hakmoon Lee, Hyung-youb Kim, and Jeongwan Lim, and with the support of former and current officers and members, the Korean Association of ESP has grown into a distinguished academic institution. Through tireless efforts, we have firmly established and earned recognition for our identity as a leading organization in the field of ESP education.
As we embark on the 5th term of the Korean Association of ESP, our executive team is committed to strengthening the foundation of the association and expanding its reach over the next two years through the following key initiatives.
First, building on the outcomes of the ESP reading seminars held over the past year, we plan to publish the Korean Association of ESP Monograph Series, Volume 1. This publication will provide an overview of domestic and international ESP research, identify current demands and challenges in Korea, and offer guidance for future research directions. It will also serve as a valuable resource for nurturing the next generation of ESP scholars. In conjunction with this project, we aim to design a roadmap for developing forward-looking educational content tailored to diverse academic and professional fields.
Our academic journal, ESP Review, now officially listed in the Korea Citation Index (KCI), will increase its publication frequency to three issues per year starting in 2025, thereby enhancing both its quantity and academic quality. In pursuit of our next goals—designation as a KCI Excellent Journal and inclusion in SCOPUS—we will also revise our submission guidelines, refine the journal's style, and improve our association's website.
In addition, we are actively pursuing MOUs with international ESP associations and collaborations with various professional academic societies to foster a more interdisciplinary and practice-oriented approach to ESP research. Looking ahead, our annual academic conference in 2026 will be held as an international conference to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Korean Association of ESP.
To ensure the success of these endeavors, we sincerely ask for your continued interest, support, and active participation.
Seohyun Paik
President of the Korean Association of ESP
